Providence Health & Services Financial Analyst in Santa Monica, California
Providence is calling a Financial Analyst (Full Time/Day Shift) to Providence John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, CA.
We are seeking a Financial Analyst who will perform various post award financial functions to ensure adherence to federal, state and Providence policies and procedures. The person holding this position must have very strong analytical abilities, demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and familiarity with contract language.
The Financial Analyst must be able to communicate complex information (mostly financial, legal, and regulatory) to a diverse group of stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. The Analyst should have the ability to understand long-term goals and decipher financial implications of programmatic models, and the ability to frame results of financial and policy analysis in a clear and concise manner. S/he must possess diplomacy, confidentiality, and strong relationship building skills. S/he must have excellent planning, analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
Financial Analyst works collaboratively and cooperatively with the entire Finance Research team which includes the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Research Finance, Financial Analysts, Senior Financial analyst. He/she will also work closely with the Regional Director of Clinical Research, the Regional Research Manager, Clinical Research staff, physician-investigators, and external research sponsors.
In this position you will:
Be required to learn all financial aspects of clinical trial agreements under her/his purview to ensure compliance with the various sponsors
Work closely with the Clinical Research staff to ensure finance receives all necessary information on a regular basis to be able to monthly invoice all sponsors according to the negotiated budgets
Be responsible for timely clinical trial account invoicing to sponsors matching protocol driven procedures with patient accruals to ensure timely and appropriate invoicing and reimbursement
Be responsible for timely reviewing the electronic billing system (EPIC) related to the assigned clinical studies to be able to appropriately segregate charges accordingly to the Medicare Coverage Analysis
Ensure timely payment of internal and external invoices.
Work closely with the Director of Research to ensure timely deposit, correct allocation, reconciliation and distribution of revenue
Maintained on accurate detail account receivable report to be able to present to the regional management team (e.g. CFO, Principal Investigators, etc.)
Perform monthly research account reconciliations and other reconciliations as required, in collaboration with other Financial Analyst and Senior Financial Analyst. Ensure that sponsored research accounts are accurately and properly managed in accordance with Providence policies and procedures
Develop variance reports to identify financial compliance risk areas Plan/develop standard guidelines on post-audit exception reporting and documentation. Perform post audit review of sponsored research transactions, locating backup documentation, assessing and communicating with the Director of Research Finance, Providence Los Angel Research Center, and applicable Principal Investigators to resolve discrepancies
Assist Director of Research Finance in preparing monthly activity reports, and attend monthly Finance meetings with the Finance and Clinical Teams to review financials.

Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor’s degree in a business related discipline (e.g., business Administration, healthcare administration, finance, accounting, etc.)

Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required
Ability to manage relationships with multiple Principal Investigators and all research staff
Knowledge of the accounting and reporting for Federal and commercial grants, including all pertinent governmental regulations.
Possesses the ability to read and interpret Federal and commercial grant contracts to ensure proper and accurate accounting treatment
Possess the ability to effectively communicate fiscal information to principal investigators, management, administration, and other large groups
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, and employees and as appropriate, other information in accordance to Providence Health & Services policy
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with abstract as well as concrete variables
Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as Federal Grant regulations
Extensive experience with computer spreadsheets and word processing (Excel, Access, pivot tables, etc.)
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Experience working in healthcare environment
Working knowledge of applicable federal (A-21, A-110, A-133) and State of California regulations
One (1) year work experience with Federal Grants and Post Award Administration
Familiarity with large computer systems (accounting, patient billing and clinical trial management systems). Experience with Lawson, EPIC and Velos
