Providence is calling a Manager, Clinical Pharmacy Services (Full-Time/Day Shift) at Providence Saint Johns Medical Foundation in Santa Monica, CA.

We are seeking a Manager, Clinical Pharmacy Services who will be responsible for comprehensive clinical pharmacy services. This position is responsible for clinical pharmacy staff development and management and assists the Medical Director and Director of practice management in developing clinical pharmacy services goals and objectives. Develops and assures pharmacist professional standards and ensures the delivery of safe, effective and accountable clinical pharmacy services. Works closely with the medical staff and site leaders to set the operational and clinical goals for pharmacy services and ensures that established policies for clinical programs and associated distributive functions are being adhered to by the staff.

In this position you will:

  • Implement and maintain established department, unit, and clinic policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, safety, environmental, and infection CA BOP policies.

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and positive interpersonal relationships with physicians, staff, and patients/families.

  • Lead and manage clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

  • Participate in key decisions makings on recruitment and retention of clinical staff and provides input on annual personnel evaluations of clinical pharmacy staff.

  • Coordinate rounds with physicians to identify patients for therapeutic monitoring and potential interventions.

  • Coordinate ongoing quality assessments and improvements of clinical pharmacy activities in collaboration with physicians and nursing and implements necessary actions as appropriate.

  • Coordinate comprehensive pharmacy services to patients, including drug therapy assessment based upon evaluation and interpretation of patient history, age, medical condition, surgical history and objective physical biochemical data; development of therapeutic goals and endpoints of drug regimen; and patient education within scope of practice.

  • Coordinate and provide education and competency assessment program to pharmacy staff to develop clinically trained staff, ensuring safe, legal, and effective drug distribution and use; maintain department competency files in accordance with regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in the coordination of Pharmacy Management meetings and participates in different pharmacy meetings with other Providence institutions.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate programs, or area services and initiatives. Leads development of practice standards and measurable outcomes based on performance evaluation and research.

  • Assist in the provision of effective and accurate drug information services to physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other clinical patient care providers.

  • Implement and maintain pharmacy training/educational rotations, including externs, interns and residents.

  • Coordinate ongoing quality assessments and improvements of clinical pharmacy activities in collaboration with physicians and implements necessary action as appropriate.

  • Serve as a drug information resource person to physicians, patients and other health care staff. Promotes evidence based therapeutics.

  • Prepare clear and concise clinical briefs for use by nurses, medical staff and pharmacy staff.

  • Serve as a resource to the clinical pharmacists for the provision of pharmacy services.

  • Act as a liaison and consults with nursing and medical staff concerning prescribing, transcribing, dispensing, administration/monitoring of medications; reports patient adverse drug reactions, medication variances and complaints; participates in educational activities and programs for the interdisciplinary team.

  • Build and maintains strong and positive relationships with medical staff to integrate physicians into clinical pharmacy decision-making processes and services.

  • Attend meetings and participates on committees as directed/required.

  • Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students when applicable.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Manage Quality programs that focus on medication adherence for Saint John's Physician Partners patient population. Oversight of programs to ensure providers are compliant with CA laws and regulations in regard to controlled substances.

Qualifications:

Required qualification in this position include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school or college of pharmacy.

  • Meets the Pharmacy Department-specified competency requirements consistent with a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1) or post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2).

  • Has completed a GPY1 residency or Has a minimum of 2 years of experience in area of specialization.

  • Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) Residency in Pharmacy Administration or 3 years in the role of Clinical Coordinator in a hospital pharmacy practice setting.

  • Current California Registered Pharmacist License in good standing.

  • Current LA City Fire Card within 90 days of hire.

  • 3 years in the role of Clinical Coordinator, or 5 years of clinical leadership experience in a hospital pharmacy practice setting.

Preferred qualification in this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Health Administration or Business Administration.

  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or appropriate Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification.

  • 3 years of Leadership and management experience in integrated health system pharmacy operations.
