Providence is calling a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to Translational Neurosciences and Neurotherapeutics for Full-Time Day Shift to Providence John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, CA.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the goal of developing an independent scientist in the Department of Translational Immunology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute. The training vehicle involves work focused on mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity as they pertain to anti-tumor immune responses. Cancer models may include melanoma, breast cancer or others. Projects may include the investigation of the role of microbes, adjuvants, host factors, and microbiomes in enhancing anti-tumor immune responses. Research utilizes cellular immunology and molecular biology techniques and systems biology approaches.
In general, the Mission of this Department is to work together for the success of all members and to make important advances in our understanding of effective immune responses so that we may develop therapies to encourage improved host defense against infectious diseases and cancer.
It is our goal that upon completion of your appointment here at JWCI you will be poised for an independent scientific leadership position.
In this position you will:
Follow all rules and regulations for proper/ethical/safe laboratory practice set by Regulatory, Institutional and Departmental standards and protocols; follow and enforce proper laboratory procedures to ensure optimal work environment for laboratory and to avoid contamination
Organize and plan experiments under general PI supervision. Analyze data independently, and prepare figures, grants, abstracts and manuscripts with supervision
Work independently and also as part of a team; encourage teamwork among laboratory members
Assist in writing policies and procedures as needed and requested by supervisor
Order supplies
Assist with laboratory upkeep, maintenance of equipment and reagents
Read the literature to maintain updated knowledge base
Discuss literature and results with fellow laboratory members
Participate in maintenance to ensure smooth operations of laboratory
Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks of all procedures and experiments, document and report results at research conferences, in manuscripts, and assist in grant writing
Present and actively participates in laboratory meetings and journal clubs
Submit original data from research projects to national and international meetings and peer reviewed journals
Apply for appropriate fellowships and grants, assist in grant writing for the Department
Provide research updates, summarize data for grant progress reports
Attend departmental seminars, Institute research seminars and conferences when appropriate for your research or when advised by supervisor
Participate in developmental activities as requested to aid in the acquisition of philanthropic support for the research mission of Institute
Reply to all communications (such as email and telephone) within one business day
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Doctoral degree, PhD or MD
Human subjects research training/certification
Significant research experience that led to publications in quality peer-reviewed journals in any area of the biomedical sciences
4 years experience in basic science research laboratory working on research projects related to cancer or immunology
Have strong communication and leadership skills
Shows evidence of having developed breadth and depth in an area of biomedical science
Have developed foundation in technical skills including sterile tissue culture technique, molecular biology and biochemical techniques, upon which these skills will be built and broadened
