We are seeking a Research Associate III who will be in the molecular oncology laboratory performs molecular biology (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptome) assays, organizing data, RNA/DNA extraction, human sample handling, in vitro culture assays, developing molecular assays pertaining to circulating tumor cells and cell-free DNA, and other tasks as assigned by supervisor or department director, and leads studies in translational cancer research utilizing availability of cancer patients' specimen resources from clinical trials.
The project focus is on mechanisms of molecular translational research which can include drug resistance and/or anti-tumor immune responses in cancer patients receiving checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy. Human cancer studies include melanoma, breast cancer, GU cancer, ovarian cancer, or others. Projects may include investigation of the role of mechanistic studies of metastasis and/or biomarker studies on biofluids such as circulating cell free DNA/miRNA. In general, the Mission of this Department is to work together for the success of all members and to make important advances in our understanding of how to identify drug resistance of targeted therapy or modern immunotherapy in cancer patients.
In this position you will:
Perform research in a highly technical molecular laboratory in cancer diagnosis. Perform cell culture, RNA/DNA extraction, PCR assays, and develop assays as required
Perform research utilizing immunology and molecular biology techniques applied to systems biology approaches, novel approaches in epigenetics as related to chromatin remodeling in regulating targeted therapy, immunotherapy or metabolics
Provide assistance to senior research scientists in project completion or in general laboratory support. Duties may include pipetting, organizing, RNA/DNA extraction, human sample handling, general laboratory maintenance, ordering and organizing supplies and other tasks as assigned by supervisor or department director. Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks of all procedures and experiments, document and report results at research conferences and manuscripts
Organize and plan experiments to answer specific hypothesis in translational research studies on cancer patients
Work independently and also as part of a team; encourage teamwork among laboratory members
Summarize and interpret data; formal reporting of research results including presentations
Analyze data independently, and assist in preparing figures, grants, abstracts, and manuscripts
Assist in the initiation and support of collaborative research relationships; liaison for different research programs
Lead specific molecular diagnostic programs
Be responsible for the maintenance and operation of appropriate laboratory equipment, for keeping the appropriate materials and supplies available
Possibly assist, train, and provide expertise for the research activities of new laboratory members, research fellows, volunteers, etc.

Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree -or- equivalent education/experience
Four (4) years of Laboratory Experience
Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Able to learn and follow new procedures for scientific assay techniques
Able to contribute as part of a team
Able to work with a wide variety of personalities and professional circumstances
