Description:
Providence is calling a Registered Nurse to NICU for Full-Time Nights to Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA.
We are seeking a Registered Nurse under the supervision of the Charge Nurse or the Director, Maternal Child Health, the Registered Nurse of Newborn Nursery/Labor and Delivery is a professionally licensed person with demonstrated perinatal and newborn clinical expertise. The individual in this position provides a 100% clinical service for the perinatal unit.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate ante, intra, and post partum and intra-operative care for obstetric patients in accordance with individual patient needs and physician plan of care
Plan and coordinate newborn assessment and care at delivery, transition, and through newborn recovery to discharge
Apply and interpret hospital policies and legal requirements of nursing practice guidelines
Participate in the monitoring of inventory control of supplies
Monitor functionality, availability of supplies and equipment
Maintain an effective line of communication with the charge nurse, physicians, ancillary staff, and visitors
Participate in select patient care activities such as instructing, teaching, demonstrating, and evaluating patient’s progress against patient care plan, scrubbing, circulating, room turnover and transporting as required or assigned
Participate in and collaborates with the Director, in meeting the department’s budgetary objectives
Behaviorally support the philosophy, objectives and goals of hospital administration and its representatives
Perform patient assessment and data collection
Participate in goal directed plan of care based on patient outcomes
Implement care based on department and hospital standards
Participate in evaluating effectiveness
Participate in identifying patient/significant others learning needs and demonstrates measures to meet these
Delegate duties and assignments to appropriate team members
Demonstrate applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations including care appropriate to the age of patients served
Demonstrate competency in selected clinical skills including, but not limited to:
Advanced fetal monitoring
Neonatal resuscitation
EMTALAJCOBRA
Circulating and basic knowledge of Scrubbing technique
Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regard to:
Attendance, punctuality and patient confidentiality
Positive public relations image and working relationships
Completing all mandatory requirements, including annual safety programs, CPR, infection control and annual physical
Participate in the development and attainment of team, department and hospital goals by:
Attending and participating in department meetings
Volunteering or accepting assignment for projects
Sharing knowledge with peers by communicating physician practice changes.
Abiding by mission, vision and team ground rules
Demonstrate adherence to documentation guidelines on patient care records and unit forms
Comply with established principles, practices and standards of perinatal nursing
Provide or obtain essential equipment and supplies for each patient and ensuring that assigned room is adequately equipped (emergency resuscitation equipment) and ready for use for both mother and baby
Inspect assigned rooms daily for cleanliness, sterility, functionality, and safety
Take corrective action when violations to perinatal principles and/or newborn protocols occur and follows through with written report(s) as indicated
Observe medical staff activities in surgery to ensure conformity with hospital policies and reports violations to designated management personnel
Remove defective equipment from service and requisitions maintenance and repair services
Keep Charge Nurse of Perinatal Services informed of departmental activities, needs and problems in a timely manner so that problem resolution may take place without delay
Serve as a clinical resource to new staff members as requested or assigned
Anticipate the needs of physicians (ensures that specialty equipment and supplies are available)
Participate in educational offerings to maintain or attain a level of knowledge
Recommend and takes action for corrections to the system
Maintain current status of certifications, annual physicals and licensure
Practice cost-effective methods in the delivery of care through efficient use of available resources and completes assignments on time with minimal overtime
Adjust daily routine as necessary to allow for maximum utilization of resources
Assist other staff members in providing direct patient care in times of increased census or workload
Use downtime effectively to assist others, accomplish assigned projects and volunteers for additional tasks
Support management’s guidelines and objectives regarding fiscal budget goals both verbally and behaviorally
Coordinate assigned patient’s activities with other nursing and non-nursing departments to ensure uninterrupted patient care
Arrive on time to work in a consistent manner, to be present at morning report sessions and be ready to provide clinical services to obstetric patients
Adhere to established hospital attendance policy
Other duties as assigned within nursing scope of practice
Maintain an effective interdepartmental and public relationship by keeping lines of communication open
Anticipate needs of the team and ensures smooth operational flow (i.e., transports patients to OR to meet scheduled start time, transfers patients to postpartum)
Initiate problem resolution for identified opportunities for improvement or difficult interpersonal situations
Demonstrate consistent professional attitude in all interactions (including conflicts) with patients, families, physicians and co-workers
Participate in departmental in-services in a consistent manner
Respond to identified team and/or patient care needs by directly assisting staff members
Adapt and accommodate to changes in daily routine in a positive manner
Behaviorally support the goals and objectives of the department
Facilitate the integration of new personnel into the group in a positive, non-threatening manner
Fax, photocopy, and other administrative duties
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
RN Graduate from an NLN accredited nursing program
1 year acute patient care experience in a Labor and Delivery and/or Newborn Nursery setting.
Current RN license in the State of California
Current BLS Card
Current ACLS Card
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Certificate
Current Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate
Completes both initial and annual competency assessments including age specific competencies
Ability to deal effectively with many people across a broad range of background(s) and ages
Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate patient care
Ability to work independently, but under the supervision of the Charge Nurse
Knowledge of operation of PC, fetal monitoring equipment, and equipment related to the care of a newborn
Familiarity with surgical, obstetric, anesthesia, newborn equipment and supplies
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Able to work with Labor and Delivery patients and/or their newborn infants
